Therapy for Women Navigating Difficult Family Relationships
find PEACE in your hardest family relationships
The people you love most have become the hardest to be around.
The tension runs in the background of everything - a strained relationship with a parent, an adult child who's pulled away, an in-law who puts you on edge, or a marriage you're no longer sure about. You carry it through every role you fill: daughter, mother, partner and the steady one everyone counts on, until you're stretched thin and running on empty. On the outside you hold it together, but inside, you feel heavy, overwhelmed and alone. You are quietly grieving the closeness you hoped for and aren't sure you'll ever find. The exhaustion isn't only from the conflict, it's from how much you still wish things were different.
Living with a difficult family relationship, you know how it feels…
You're walking on eggshells — choosing your words, smoothing things over, keeping the peace for everyone else until there's nothing left for you
Old wounds get triggered by a single comment or look, pulling you back into a dynamic you thought you'd outgrown
Every attempt to communicate ends in conflict or cold silence, and the boundaries you set never seem to hold
The dread starts long before any contact and lingers after, so you brace yourself, or pull away altogether, grieving a closeness that feels out of reach
And the hardest part is how alone you feel in it - carrying it all in silence while everyone assumes you're fine
Peace doesn't have to depend on everyone else changing. It can start with you
Individual relationship therapy can help you…
Set boundaries that actually hold, and let go of the guilt that comes with having needs of your own
Understand the deeper patterns and the root of recurring conflict, so you can respond from a place of clarity instead of being pulled back into the same roles and reactions
Express what you feel and need clearly without it spiraling into conflict or shutting down into silence
Find peace with the relationships you can't change — whether that means repairing them, redefining them, or grieving and finally letting go
Lift the weight of feeling stuck and hopeless in a relationship you're unsure about, and find your clarity and confidence again
WHAT THERAPY WITH ME LOOKS LIKE
My approach starts with focusing on you, not on changing anyone else, because your peace shouldn't depend on it. Whether you're hoping to repair a relationship that feels too far gone, set boundaries that finally respect your needs, or come to terms with a loss you can't change, this is your space to work through it - at your own pace and guided by what matters most to you. I draw on evidence-based approaches like Narrative Therapy, attachment-based and strengths-based work, all through a culturally informed lens that honors the unique factors shaping your family. Most of all, you'll have a space where you can finally be yourself — where nothing is too much to say and you're met with warmth and acceptance that allows real growth.
A place to let go
For once, you don't have to be the strong one. This is where you can let go of holding it all together and finally feel supported and carried by someone who can hold the weight with you and meet you exactly where you are
From stuck to steady
This is where things start to shift. Together we'll get to the root of patterns, work through what's kept you stuck, and build the clarity and tools you need to feel like yourself again — grounded, capable and more in control than you've felt in a long time.
Relief made to last
This is more than a place to talk through your week. We'll do the deeper work that creates lasting change and eases what feels heaviest right now, so you walk away with relief you can feel today and tools that keep working long after you leave the room
You don’t have to keep carrying this alone.
-
This type of therapy focuses on you as an individual, making your needs, goals and experience the primary focus. My focus will be on helping you feel empowered and in control. In contrast, family therapy focuses on the family unit as a whole to help members resolve problems together.
-
Our work will be focused solely on you; learning to use strategies that improve your emotional wellbeing and provide you the relief you’re looking for. Occasionally some clients invite certain family members for limited sessions to target a specific issue, but that is done on a case by case basis and in collaboration with you.
-
While you may not see changes in other family members, the goal is to help you manage conflict effectively, reduce tension and its impact on your life and set healthy boundaries for yourself. Many clients walk away with a greater sense of confidence, empowerment and peace in their lives.
